Supervisory Responsibilities: 2 - 3 direct reports

Typical Schedule: Primarily M-F Days. Must occasionally be willing and able to work flexible hours/days, including evenings and weekends, reflective of the dynamic schedule of the theater.

Position Summary

Provides overall strategic human resource leadership to all divisions within the Guthrie Theater. Oversee the development and implementation of human resources policies, programs, and services, including recruitment, selection, retention, legal compliance, employee benefits and compensation, employee relations, employment practices and procedures, employee communications and employee events. Serve as internal consultant to leadership and senior management teams, supervisors, and employees on human resource issues that affect performance and business relationships. Directs, creates, and implements the human resource strategic plan and total rewards strategy. Leads the human resources team. Accountable to the Managing Director for a wide range of responsibilities requiring a high level of confidentiality. Demonstrates the ability to deal diplomatically with a wide variety of people, possesses strong organizational skills and an ability to delegate tasks with an attention to detail. Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership and Supervision
Serve as a member of the Senior Team and various committees, including but limited to Labor Management Committee (LMC) and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Advisory Group. Creates and directs the implementation of the human resource strategic plan for the Guthrie Theater and proactively overseas the corresponding budget and resources needs.Lead and manage the Human Resources function, including supervision of all members of the Human Resources Department. Foster a work environment of and set a professional example of artistic excellence, community, diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility, and financial responsibility.Conduct one on one and other check-ins as needed with all members of the Human Resources department.Actively participate in team building, fostering a work environment of artistic excellence, community, diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility, and financial responsibility.Lead the recruitment, hiring and retention of staff members to ensure quality and mission aligned work.Actively participate in team building. Attend and/or run department meetings to communicate pertinent information along to the employees.Coach and develop staff members by monitoring employee productivity and providing constructive feedback; facilitating conflict resolution among employees; ensuring adherence to legal and organizational policies and procedures and undertaking disciplinary actions if the need arises; and completing annual performance evaluations.Maintain and approve direct report timesheets, Personal Time Off requests, and other personnel records.
Talent Acquisition
Develops and implements recruitment and staffing strategies to attract, retain, and engage an effective, committed, and diverse workforce for the Guthrie. Ensure talent acquisition processes comply with legal standards.Ensures and leads internal and external talent acquisition efforts such as job postings, ads, websites, social media etc.Oversees open position review process to align talent needs with budget and organizational priorities.Serves as Senior Recruiter for Director level and above recruitments, including review of applicants and collaboration with hiring managers to match experience with position-related requirements and essential functions.Partners with Guthrie community engagement efforts to ensure culturally diverse candidate pipelines.Responsible for crafting and designing interview questions and consistent formatting for all positions.Ensures staff are well trained to use best practices and comply with legal standards for recruitment/ interview processes.Ensures onboarding processes are inclusive and designed to emphasize the critical importance of welcoming and integrating new employees into the organization's culture (with the emphasis on the Guthrie's values and policies).
Employee Experience and Professional Development
Lead efforts to foster a creative and inclusive organizational culture at the Guthrie Theater that is a reflection of its strategies and values.Serve as an internal consultant to employees regarding human resources, employee relations, and labor-related issues.Creates and promotes employee engagement efforts to positively enhance the overall employee experience at the GuthrieConducts surveys and collects other qualitative and quantitative data in order to identify areas of interest and concern to employees initiating and implementing new programs as needed.Oversee the review and analysis of job descriptions and conduct job analyses to establish the specific requirements of individual jobs within each department.Responsible to manage, create and lead efforts around organizational structure and org charts.Create, implement, and monitor employee training plans, including performance management, leadership, legal updates, etc. Collaborates with external vendors for additional training support as needed. Schedule and/or create and ensure delivery of anti-harassment and anti-discrimination training.Oversee performance management and performance review process. Researches, determines, and implements the annual review, preparation, and administration of annual performance appraisal process. Ensure supervisors are trained on providing ongoing feedback and conducting formal reviews.Support supervisors in crafting and establishing Growth Action Plans when and if employees have significant areas for improvement. Supports supervisors in implementation of knowledge management practices, including cross training and succession planning.
Total Rewards (Benefits and Compensation)
Works with and directs benefit broker to ensure quality service and appropriate benefits pricing.Obtains bids upon renewal, confers with senior leadership regarding benefits costs, making recommendations as to employer/employee cost sharing and plan design. Researches, evaluates, and oversees implementation of employee benefit changes where needed to ensure the Guthrie Theater remains competitive with other employers.Oversees all benefits administration (including Health, Dental, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, Short Term Disability, Retirement Planning, Flexible Spending, COBRA).Enacts a total compensation strategy through research and design which aligns with organizational goals. This includes benefits strategy, compensation philosophy, position range/grade design, and market analysis. Oversee Worker's Compensation Program. Ensure OSHA workplace safety protocols are adhered to.Works with benefit brokers to ensure timely reporting to IRS for benefit plans (5500).Ensures compliance with federal regulations in regard to Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Patience Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), Family Medical Leave Requests (FMLA), Minnesota Paid Family Medical Leave (MNPFML), Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST), Wage Theft laws and ordinances, and any other applicable laws as it relates to benefits and compensation.
Administration
Provide employee relations, employee counseling and conflict resolution services to managers and employees. Assist with labor relations issues to facilitate a positive, legally compliant work environment. Create and implement separations of employment guidelines and monitor/oversee separations to ensure compliance with employment law. Facilitate separations of employment as needed with respect to the dignity of the individual while also protecting the best interest of the theater and its community of employees. Serve as the primary contact with legal counsel regarding employment, employee relations, and other legal matters. Participate in Labor Management Committee (LMC) meetings and in union contract negotiations as requested. Stay actively apprised of current local, state, and federal laws as well as court cases and trends that may impact the workplace; inform Senior Leadership of important issues and changes. Formulate, review, and revise the Guthrie Employee Handbook annually, as well as other policies and procedures, to comply with appropriate legal requirements and promote employee awareness and engagement.

Essential Knowledge and Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in human resources, organizational development, training and development and senior leadership level experience, or a combination of equivalent experience and training.Knowledge of Federal and State Employment Law.Skill in communicating effectively and persuasively in oral and written communication on an interpersonal or group level.Skill in identifying and resolving issues including highly charged employment and labor issues.Skill in assessing, coordinating, and conducting training sessions.Capability to handle confidential information in a professional mannerKnowledge of employee benefit issues and the ability to work effectively with benefit brokers and vendors.Knowledge of the National Labor Relations Act and how to manage within a unionized environment.Skilled in leading, motivating, and supervising employees.Capability to create and administer compensation and performance management programs.Ability to manage multiple priorities to ensure work is completed in a timely and productive manner.Experience, ability, and commitment to working with individuals and teams that are mixed across lines of difference such as race, gender-identity, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, class, and immigrant status.
